California Pony Express

Pony Express Re-Ride

Each June, members of the National Pony Express Association recreate the Pony Express Mail Ride in a commemorative Re-Ride over a 10 day period, letters are carried in a mochila over the original trail. Each year our riders carry commemorative and personal letters (usually starting in January or February) for $5.00 for a commemorative letter and $10.00 for a personal letter. If you are interested in purchasing one of these commemorative letters, please ask a Pony Express Member, visit us at one of our events, or use our "Contact Us" page for more information. For 2020, the US Mail will leave St. Joseph, Missouri and head to Old Sacramento. Dates for 2020 will be posted soon.

The 1,966 mile, eight state event is conducted 24 hours a day until the mail is delivered to its destination. More than a national event, it is an opportunity for a new generation to ride the National Pony Express Trail or to receive the Express Mail. Over 750 riders participate. They come from all walks of life, but are all members of the NPEA Divisions in the eight states along the trail. We invite you to join us in this exciting event.

The National Pony Express Association

The National Pony Express Association is a non-profit, all volunteer organization founded in 1978 to "Re-establish, Identify and Re-Ride the Historical Pony Express Trail" every year.

National Headquarters is located in Pollock Pines, California. An Annual Director's Meeting is held in September in a city along the Trail. The organization is governed by written By-Laws and incorporated in the State of California. A National President is elected annually at the national meeting.

The Association is composed of members from California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. The Association is active all year long with each State participating in commemorative events, trail work, parades, and trail/school education. If you are interested in joining, or having Pony Express present an education event, please be sure to visit the "Contact Us" section on the Contact page, and someone will get back to you usually within 48 hours.
